"Community lost ! the true demise of a nation"

Like so many I am a desperate and distraught mother feeling utterly let-down by our evergrowing over subscribed schools... And true to most cases I have a unique and deserving reason why my daughter should be accepted at my chosen school, ...surely ?!

I have lived in Aylestone on the same street for over 16 years. My whole family (mother father sisters nieces cousins ect...and their children) have all gradually moved here and within 5 minutes walking distance of each other. Yes you can conclude we are a close family!

Close in the sense that we socialise together in the local pubs and often share a birthday party or tea together. But also close in the "old fashioned sense" that if we are ill someone is there to pop to the surgery, if we are away someone watches out and waters the plants! we enjoy leaving our gasgusslers on the drive and walking through familar streets with shared neighbours and familar friends. Together we have shared street parties and supported much local fundraising... I guess this is simply "being part of a community"

Through all these years my local school has been at the heart of this. One that has accepted in generations of my family, and the shared generation of my daughter. The only difference being they are one side of the line... and I am another! We are not awarded a place, we are to "accept" the stark fact that as an address we have to attend a school that has no family and friends - no support for a working mother - and not an essential part of "our" community.

Our only saviour is (not to be heard by understanding ears who may value our situation and feelings)- but to be told cross over that line and re-apply next year. In other words move that quater of a mile - simply packup the home and security you have built and love - and shift a little !

I am not a mother who lives in oadby or Wigston yet fancies an Aylestone school - I am a local mother who has always considered this school to be my local school. One I don't have to drive to, one that I have direct confidence and belief in - one that I feel has now left us stranded.

So who can I appeal to before I miss every chance of that long list of "more deserving applicants" taking every space ?

can my local conservative party help? It's a party I have always supported and believed in? Is anyone out there prepared to see us not as figure on a list or an address on a border line - anyone who perhaps believes in the real importance of "community spirit" rather than a society who has less choice, less say and certainly less importance than this relentless figure crunching bland and disfunctional lonely society? .
