Business Details

American legends of soul and motown it was America’s time, an age of cultural upheaval and social unrest. In this cauldron of passion, no music was more passionate than that of the drifters, the temptations and the four tops. From these seeds blossomed partnerships which would help define a sound, and a sound that defined an era. The Drifters were originally formed in 1953 by George Tredwell who managed their affairs until his death in 1967. His wife Faye Tredwell then took over through their most prolific period, 1967 until 2002. One of the most successful and enduring vocal groups of all time, The Drifters had three distinctly separate phases: the first line up of the legendary group was fronted by Clyde McPhatter in 1953. Bill Pinkney was one of the backing vocalists to McPhatter. Ben E King replaced McPhatter in 1959 before embarking on his own solo career with ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘Spanish Harlem’. Rudy Lewis superseded King, but unfortunately he died tragically in 1964. Johnny Moore was then re-introduced into the group performed longer, and recorded more songs than any other member. Ten years on, the group entered a 'golden era'. . . The 1960's with a series of classic Latin - tinged hit recordings such as ‘On Broadway’, ‘Save The Last Dance For Me’, ‘There Goes My Baby’ and ‘Up On The Roof’. The Drifters show features Richie Sampson who has performed with long standing members of ‘The Drifters’ such as Ray Lewis, Billy Lewis, Butch Leak and Roy Hemmings at various times..
