"Terrible"

A review of Casa Romana by S deacon written on Sunday 18th of September 2011

Having booked for 8.00, we were not seated until 8.40. Quite frankly, unacceptable.

No-one came over to explain the wait, or give us an estimate on how long this wait would be. If I book for 8.00, I expect to be able to sit down within 5 minutes of this time. If I have the courtesy to turn up on time, they could at least have the courtesy to have the table ready.

There was no apology for this delay.

The gent who took our order did so with a brutal efficiency, to the point of having left the table before we had finished choosing our side orders.

There was no explanation about any of the dishes by the waiter. For example, the veal came on its own- literally one 6oz piece of thin veal, and a lemon wedge (at £13.50, that’s just plain mean). It should have been pointed out that we needed to order sides with this dish, but then we didn’t get the chance to order sides, (see earlier)

When our food was delivered to us, it was placed on the table with all the grace of someone dealing cards.

The one side dish we did get the opportunity to order came out wrong; he obviously didn’t listen to what we were asking for.

The food in itself was perfectly ok- the veal was tasty enough, just embarrassingly bereft of any form of accompaniment.

Having been ignored for most of the evening, we then seemed to have the table cleared en-masse; giving the distinct impression they just wanted us out as quickly as possible.

Didn’t leave a service tip, because I felt the service was massively lacking, almost bordering on the Basil Fawlty School of customers getting in the way.

Hugely disappointed.

And I had a sandwich when I got home!!!
